The BytesFeedParser, imported from the email.feedparser module,provides an API that is conducive to incremental parsing of email messages,such as would be necessary when reading the text of an email message from asource that can block (such as a socket). The BytesFeedParser can ofcourse be used to parse an email message fully contained in a bytes-likeobject, string, or file, but the BytesParser API may be moreconvenient for such use cases. The semantics and results of the two parserAPIs are identical.


In lxml.etree, you can use both interfaces to a parser at the sametime: the parse() or XML() functions, and the feed parserinterface. Both are independent and will not conflict (except if usedin conjunction with a parser target object as described above).


If you do not call close(), the parser will stay locked andsubsequent feeds will keep appending data, usually resulting in a nonwell-formed document and an unexpected parser error. So make sure youalways close the parser after use, also in the exception case.


Another way of achieving the same step-by-step parsing is by writing your ownfile-like object that returns a chunk of data on each read() call. Wherethe feed parser interface allows you to actively pass data chunks into theparser, a file-like object passively responds to read() requests of theparser itself. Depending on the data source, either way may be more natural.


In Python 3.4, the xml.etree.ElementTree package gained an extensionto the feed parser interface that is implemented by the XMLPullParserclass. It additionally allows processing parse events after eachincremental parsing step, by calling the .read_events() method anditerating over the result. This is most useful for non-blocking executionenvironments where data chunks arrive one after the other and should beprocessed as far as possible in each step.
